In this lesson, I taught how to sew the zipper onto the back of a top piece. I carefully aligned the notches and seams before attaching the zipper, ensuring a perfect fit.

I demonstrated the process of attaching a zipper to the back of a top, emphasizing the importance of precise alignment and using thin, sturdy fabric strips to stabilize the zipper area.

Lesson Steps:

  • Align the back pieces, matching notches and seams
  • Separate the zipper pieces and position them on the back opening
  • Sew the zipper to one side, then the other
  • Make a hole at the bottom of the zipper opening
  • Attach a thin, sturdy fabric strip (like organza or silk ribbon) from side seam to side seam to stabilize the zipper area
  • Optionally, sew the zipper tape to the side seams for extra stability
  • Topstitch close to the zipper teeth for a neat finish
  • Try on the garment on a dress form to check the fit
