LEVEL 6

Welcome to Level 6 of Dressmakers’ Path! You made it all the way to Level 6, Bravo. We will get to work with knits. Who doesn’t love knits? I can live only on jersey clothes all year long. So it is very important to have very good fitted Jersey samples and blocks. We’ll start by learning about Jersey Fabrics & types. Then we’ll drape a Close-fitting Jersey & turn it into a pattern. We’ll jump to making a t-shirt, and then look into turning your well-fitted t-shirt into a pattern. As you progress through the level, make sure you share your progress with us in our Community group, so you can get support & feedback from our members & also from me during our Weekly Live Q&A Sessions! Let’s dive right in.

Jersey Foundations

Jersey Info – What to Choose for Your Draping Project

In this guide, I discuss the different types of jersey fabrics suitable for draping projects, focusing on their stretch properties, weight, and drape. I explain the difference between two-way and four-way stretch fabrics, and recommend using double jerseys or interlocks with a nice drape and weight for draping cocktail dresses.

T-Shirt Foundation – Draping

How to drape a basic t-shirt foundation on a dress form using jersey fabric. I demonstrated how to create a grid on the fabric, place it on the dress form, and pin it in place to create a well-fitting foundation for both relaxed and close-fitted t-shirts.

T-Shirt Foundation – Patternmaking

I teach how to transfer a t-shirt foundation to a paper pattern. I demonstrate how to make adjustments for both close-fitting and relaxed-fit styles, including dart manipulation and armhole adjustments.

Very Close Fitting Jersey Sloper – Draping

In this lesson, I taught how to create a very close-fitting jersey sloper through draping. I demonstrated the process for both the front and back pieces, focusing on achieving a tight fit while maintaining proper alignment of center lines and key body points.

Very Close Fitting Jersey Sloper – Patternmaking

In this lesson, I taught how to create a very close fitting full body jersey sloper. I demonstrated how to transfer measurements from a dress form to paper, make necessary adjustments, and finalize the pattern for both front and back pieces.
