In this guide, I teach how to add waist shaping to a close-fitting bodice block.

I demonstrate the process of applying classic waist shaping, including marking dart positions, adjusting side seams, and creating a smooth waistline.

I also share some tips on truing the pattern and making adjustments for different body sizes.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Trace the bodice block and attach side seams.
  2. Mark dart positions (3.5 cm for back, 4.5 cm for front).
  3. Adjust side seams (1.5 cm for back, 2.5 cm for front).
  4. Drop the waistline by 1 cm.
  5. Create darts towards the underarm.
  6. Close the darts and reshape the waistline.
  7. Blend the waistline with the center back, ensuring a smooth curve.
  8. True the pattern and make any necessary adjustments.

Remember, you can always make further adjustments after creating a sample and fitting it on yourself or a dress form.
