In this guide, I teach how to properly tape and mark key measurements on a professional dress form. I cover important points like finding the correct neckline placement, marking the waist, shoulder lines, armholes, bust points, and hip lines. I also explain how to create accurate princess seams and darts.

Steps:

  1. Find and mark the waistline
  2. Measure and mark the neckline points (front and back)
  3. Tape the waistline straight around the form
  4. Mark and tape the shoulder lines
  5. Create and tape the armholes
  6. Mark and tape the bustline
  7. Create princess lines front and back
  8. Mark dart placements
  9. Measure and mark the hipline
  10. Tape center front, center back, and side seams

These are my personal tips for working with professional dress forms. The measurements I provide are for a size 6 form, but I also give some guidance on adjusting for other sizes. Remember that taking a step back and viewing the form from a distance helps ensure your lines and angles look correct.
