In this video, I discuss options for adding pockets to the Amanda jacket and explain how to sew the shoulder line.

For the pockets:

  1. I suggest placing them either on top of the side panel seam or just above it.
  2. I recommend drawing potential pocket placements on your muslin to visualize options.
  3. I demonstrate how to determine a good pocket size (around 5-6 inches) and shape.
  4. I explain you can round the bottom of the pocket if desired.
  5. I advise cutting out a sample pocket shape to test placement on your muslin.
  6. For mohair fabric, I suggest either lining the pocket or using bias binding.

For the shoulder line sewing:

  1. I explain how to stitch the neckline to the corner.
  2. For those having difficulty with the sharp corner, I show how to round it slightly.
  3. I demonstrate how to adjust the pattern pieces to create a rounder neckline.

I also cover:

  • How to elongate the jacket by adding 2-3 inches, following the pattern lines.
  • Tips for adjusting the armhole and sleeve if making it larger.
  • Suggestions for creating a kimono-style sleeve option.
