In this guide, I explain the measurements needed for drafting a close-fitting master torso block, including bust, nape to waist, waist to hip, armhole depth, neckline, shoulder, back width, dart, and chest.

I discuss the differences between this drafting method and draping, highlighting that this technique is more technical and easier to size up or down.

I also provide detailed instructions on how to take each measurement correctly on the body or dress form.

Steps for taking measurements:

  1. Measure bust circumference around the apex and back
  2. Measure waist circumference
  3. Measure hip circumference
  4. Measure nape to waist from center back
  5. Measure armhole depth from side of neck to about 2-2.5 cm above bust line
  6. Measure shoulder length
  7. Measure back width (usually 15-18 cm down from neck)
  8. Note dart size from measurement chart
  9. Measure chest (5-8 cm down from center front neck)

I emphasize the importance of accurate measurements and explain how this drafting method differs from draping techniques.

I also provide tips on using standard sizing charts and adapting measurements to different body types.
