In this guide, I teach how to draft a custom tailored skirt foundation pattern using personal measurements.

I demonstrate the step-by-step process of creating both the back and front pattern pieces, including how to place darts, shape the waistline, and add seam allowances.

The lesson emphasizes the importance of creating a muslin test garment to check fit and make necessary adjustments before finalizing the pattern.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Prepare materials: rulers, pencils, and paper
  2. Mark initial measurements and key points on the paper
  3. Draft the back pattern piece:
    — Draw center back line and side seam
    — Place and shape darts
    — Shape the waistline
  4. Draft the front pattern piece:
    — Draw center front line and side seam
    — Place and shape dart
    — Shape the waistline
  5. Add seam allowances to side seams and center back
  6. Mark grain lines and pattern information
  7. Cut out pattern pieces
  8. Create a muslin test garment
  9. Fit the test garment and make necessary adjustments
