In this guide, I teach how to draft a straight waistband pattern with an underwrap for a tailored skirt.
I demonstrate the process of creating the pattern, including how to measure, mark, and add seam allowances.
I also explain how to incorporate closures like buttons or hooks and eyes, and provide tips on cutting and interfacing the waistband.
Lesson Steps:
- Fold paper and mark measurements (36cm from center front, 18cm for side seam, 6cm width)
- Draw dash lines for center front, center back, and side seam
- Extend center front and back for overlap
- Transfer markings to both sides of the folded paper
- Add seam allowances (1cm)
- Cut out the pattern
- Mark notches for center front, side seams, and center back
- Indicate grain line (cut on cross grain)
- Label pattern with relevant information (e.g., waist measurement, pattern name)
