In this guide, I teach how to draft a straight waistband pattern with an underwrap for a tailored skirt.

I demonstrate the process of creating the pattern, including how to measure, mark, and add seam allowances.

I also explain how to incorporate closures like buttons or hooks and eyes, and provide tips on cutting and interfacing the waistband.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Fold paper and mark measurements (36cm from center front, 18cm for side seam, 6cm width)
  2. Draw dash lines for center front, center back, and side seam
  3. Extend center front and back for overlap
  4. Transfer markings to both sides of the folded paper
  5. Add seam allowances (1cm)
  6. Cut out the pattern
  7. Mark notches for center front, side seams, and center back
  8. Indicate grain line (cut on cross grain)
  9. Label pattern with relevant information (e.g., waist measurement, pattern name)
