In this guide, I introduce a multi-part project for creating a high-waisted tapered skirt with a back slit or vent.

I explain how to use a tailored skirt block to raise the waistline and taper the skirt, as well as how to add a waist facing and draft a lining.

The project is divided into several videos covering different aspects of the skirt construction.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Prepare the paper and skirt block patterns (front and back).
  2. Position the front block close to the edge of the paper for the center front.
  3. Leave extra space at the bottom for the hem and at the top to raise the waist.
  4. Allow extra space on the center back for creating a vent.
  5. Trace the block patterns onto the paper.
  6. Use weights to hold the patterns in place.
  7. Align the grids and copy the patterns.
  8. Use blue lines for the base lines.
