In this guide, I demonstrate how to add a vent slit to the center back of a high-waisted tapered skirt pattern.

I explain the process of determining the slit length, creating the vent, and adjusting the hemline for both the front and back pieces.

Additionally, I touch on how to prepare the pattern for sewing, including considerations for lining and hemming.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Determine the slit length (approximately 20 centimeters recommended)
  2. Mark the vent width (about 3 centimeters)
  3. Draw the angled vent line
  4. Add hemline allowance (3 centimeters)
  5. Separate the back piece at the vent
  6. Fold and trace the hemline for the front piece
  7. Adjust the tapered line for the front piece
  8. Repeat the hemline folding and tracing process for the back piece
  9. Adjust the tapered line for the back piece
  10. Prepare the pattern for sewing (no seam allowance added in this case)
