This guide demonstrates how to drape a basic skirt using muslin fabric. It involves gathering or pleating the fabric along the center back, leaving a portion ungathered, and creating a side seam. The process is similar to the construction of a skirt inspired by an Alexander McQueen design, resulting in a bubbly, crisp shape.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Choose a crisp muslin fabric for draping.
  2. Place the selvage edge of the fabric diagonally, representing the center front.
  3. Gather or pleat the fabric along the center back line, lifting and gathering/pleating towards the center back.
  4. Leave a portion (around 5-6 inches) of the center back ungathered.
  5. Create a side seam by marking and dividing the gathered/pleated section.
  6. Construct the skirt by joining the side seam and finishing the waistline with an elastic or casing.

This process creates a bubbly, crisp skirt shape inspired by an Alexander McQueen design.
