In this guide, I demonstrate how to modify a basic bodice pattern to create a V-neckline.
I explain the steps involved, such as marking the desired depth of the V on the front pattern piece, curving the neckline slightly, and making corresponding adjustments to the back neckline.
This allows for creating a flattering V-neck opening while maintaining a comfortable fit around the neck and shoulders.
Steps for Creating a V-Neckline:
- Determine the desired depth of the V-neckline on the front bodice pattern piece and mark it.
- Instead of a sharp V-shape, curve the neckline slightly for a more flattering look.
- Open up the neckline a bit wider, about 1/2 inch to 1 inch, to allow for a comfortable fit around the neck and shoulders.
- On the back bodice pattern piece, drop the neckline down slightly, around 1/2 inch, to match the front V-neckline depth.
- Curve the back neckline slightly to maintain a smooth transition from the front V-neckline.
- Ensure that the shoulder seams on the front and back pattern pieces match up after the neckline adjustments.
