This guide teaches how to properly mark the seam lines and reference points on an adjustable dress form to prepare it for draping and pattern making. It covers identifying and marking the center front, center back, side seams, shoulder lines, bust line, waist line, and armhole, ensuring that the lines are balanced and aligned correctly. The process involves using a tape measure, ruler, and mirror to accurately locate and mark these key points on the dress form.

Instructional Steps:

  1. Identify the center front by locating the gap between the dress form halves.
  2. Mark the center front line using a ruler or soft tape.
  3. Identify and mark the center back line following the gap or using a pencil mark.
  4. Locate the side seam by following the gap or making a straight line from the armhole to the bottom, ensuring it’s half of the body width.
  5. Mark the shoulder line, typically 10-12 cm from the neck for standard sizes.
  6. Mark the shoulder points at the desired shoulder width.
  7. Measure and mark the armhole depth, usually 1 inch above the bust line, and the armhole width across the chest.
  8. Connect the armhole markings to create an egg-shaped curve.
  9. Locate the highest point of the bust and mark the bust line.
  10. Measure and mark the waist line, ensuring it’s balanced and at a 90-degree angle from the side seams.
  11. Connect the bust line and waist line markings to the side seams, ensuring they are straight.
  12. Mark the neckline curve, connecting the shoulder points and following the dress form’s neck shape.
  13. Step back and examine the lines in a mirror, making adjustments as needed for balance and alignment.
  14. Take photos and refer to provided measurements and references for further adjustments.
