In this guide, I demonstrate how to interface different types of fabric using various interfacing materials, including woven horsehair for structured garments and knit interfacing for lighter fabrics.

I show the process of fusing interfacing to fabrics like twill, crepe back satin, and silk charmeuse, explaining the differences in structure and drape that interfacing can provide.

Additionally, I offer tips on choosing the right interfacing weight for different fabrics and purposes, as well as proper pressing techniques for optimal results.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Choose appropriate interfacing for your fabric weight and desired effect.
  2. Cut interfacing to size, matching the fabric piece.
  3. Place the fusible side of the interfacing against the wrong side of the fabric.
  4. Use a damp press cloth over the interfacing.
  5. Set iron to high heat (no steam for heavier fabrics, steam okay for lighter fabrics).
  6. Press the iron onto the fabric, holding for about 10 seconds.
  7. Move to the next section, repeating the process until the entire piece is fused.
  8. Ensure all corners and edges are properly fused.
  9. Allow the fabric to cool before handling.

Remember to always test on a scrap piece of your fabric first to ensure the best results for your specific project.
