In this guide, I explain various dart placement options for the basic bodice block, focusing on how to create a well-fitted garment.

I cover different dart positions including shoulder, armhole, bust, and waist darts, and discuss how to choose the right dart placement based on body size and shape.

I also provide tips on when to use multiple darts for larger sizes and how to achieve a cleaner look for different garment styles.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Consider placing a dart near the neckline, coming from the center front to mid-shoulder.
  2. For an armhole dart, position it about 1-3 inches (or 2-4 cm) below the armhole.
  3. Place the bust dart diagonally towards the bust point, avoiding placement too close to the armhole.
  4. For waist darts, you can use one or two darts depending on the cup size and overall fit needed.
  5. For sizes above 12 or cup sizes larger than B, consider using two darts or darts above the waist for a cleaner look.
  6. For looser-fitting garments, you can use a single dart at the bust, armhole, or shoulder area.

I encourage you to experiment with different dart placements to achieve the best fit for your unique body shape.
