In this week’s session, I discussed the progress of our jacket draping project and addressed some questions about fabric choices and construction techniques. I also shared some exciting updates about upcoming courses, including a new skirt masterclass, and recommended some helpful fashion and textile books for further learning.
Key points covered:
- Provided feedback on a student’s jacket style lines and draping
- Discussed fabric options like velvet, wool, and sequins for the jacket
- Explained bias binding techniques for finishing seams
- Answered questions about strap placement and skirt construction
- Announced plans for a new skirt masterclass course
- Recommended fashion and textile books for further learning
Questions & Answers:
- Q: What do you suggest for wrapping seams if using a loose weave fabric?
- A: I recommend using bias binding, either with the same fabric or a complementary fabric like satin or velvet. Cut on the bias for woven fabrics to allow stretch.
- Q: How much fabric is needed for the jacket?
- A: For a size 16, I used about 2.5 yards. You may be able to fit it in 2 yards for a more fitted look, but it’s good to have extra in case of mistakes.
- Q: Any tips on strap placement for dresses?
- A: Line up the straps with the princess seams or bodice darts in the back. The placement in the sample photo looked very good.
No specific demonstration was conducted in this session. Instead, I focused on answering questions and providing updates on upcoming courses and resources.
