In this session, I taught how to drape a basic t-shirt foundation on the dress form, starting with a relaxed fit. We used a jersey fabric and created a grid to help visualize the grainlines while draping.

I demonstrated the process of pinning the fabric on the dress form, ensuring it hangs straight without stretching. We marked key points like center front, side seams, and shoulder lines to create the basic t-shirt shape.

Lesson Steps:

  • Prepare jersey fabric with a gridded crossgrain and straight grain
  • Pin fabric at center front, allowing 3 inches open at neckline
  • Smooth fabric over bust and shoulders, pinning outside the lines
  • Pin straight at side seams and hip line, without stretching
  • Mark dots along princess lines, side seams down to hip
  • Repeat process for the back, pinning at center back
  • Define neckline and armhole by pinning fabric close to dress form
  • Transfer markings to create the final pattern piece
