In this session, I taught how to create pattern pieces for sheath, semi-fitted, and shift dress styles from a draped muslin.

I traced the muslin pieces onto paper, drew the darts, and adjusted the side seams and hemline.

I demonstrated tracing the muslin pieces, drawing the darts precisely, and making adjustments to the side seams and hemline to create a basic dress sloper pattern. I also explained how to mark the pattern for different dress silhouettes by closing or leaving open specific darts.

Lesson Steps:

  • Traced muslin pieces onto paper, drawing darts carefully
  • Adjusted side seams to match muslin shaping
  • Drew hemline and marked hip/waist/bust lines
  • Marked darts to indicate which to close for sheath, semi-fitted, or shift styles
  • Added seam allowances and grainline markings
  • Labeled pattern pieces with style name and cutting instructions
