In this week’s session, I focused on answering members’ questions about their ongoing projects and addressing common fit issues. I provided guidance on adjusting patterns, particularly for bodices and shirts, and discussed upcoming content for the Draping Society website. While I didn’t have time for a full demonstration, I promised to record a video showing how to remove the back shoulder dart from a pattern.

Questions & Answers:

  • Q: How do I incorporate a hidden dart between the armhole and end of the yoke?
  • A: For fitted bodices, you can move the dart to different locations like the princess line or back waist. For looser fits, I’ll demonstrate how to remove the dart on a flat pattern.

  • Q: My shirt front has puckering around the neck and shoulder area. How do I fix this?
  • A: The neck is likely too tight. Open up the neckline, drop it slightly, and redistribute excess fabric at the shoulder. This should resolve the puckering issues.

  • Q: How do I redraw the center front after adjusting the neckline?
  • A: Slash the pattern around the neckline, open it up, and refit on the dress form. Then redraw your shoulder line to remove excess fabric.

Next week, I plan to start the session with a demonstration on removing the back shoulder dart from a pattern. If I can’t do it live, I’ll record a video and share it with you all before our next meeting.
