In this week’s session, I demonstrated how to create a batwing or dolman sleeve pattern using a well-fitting t-shirt as a base. This method is perfect for those who don’t have a knit foundation block yet but want to experiment with these popular sleeve styles.

Demonstration Steps:

  1. Fold a well-fitting t-shirt in half and trace its outline onto paper
  2. Mark key points like shoulder, neckline, and side seams
  3. Extend the shoulder line outward to create the batwing/dolman shape
  4. Determine the sleeve length and width
  5. Draw the new side seam, blending it with the body
  6. Adjust the neckline if desired
  7. Add seam allowances to complete the pattern

Questions & Answers:

  • Q: As a beginner, is there anything else I need to cut away from the bat sleeve pattern you demonstrated?
  • A: No, you just need to add seam allowances. For jersey fabrics, I’ll be providing guides on how to finish necklines and hems in upcoming videos.
