In this week’s session, I shared an exciting array of luxury designer fabrics I recently acquired, including pieces from Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, and Carolina Herrera. I discussed potential projects for these fabrics and gave a sneak peek at upcoming workshops, including a skirt-making course. The session was primarily focused on fabric appreciation and future project planning rather than a specific sewing demonstration.
Questions & Answers:
- Q: How do you store your fabric to stop mildew and keep them nice?
- A: I use large plastic boxes with locking lids, lay muslin inside, and sometimes add lavender or cedar wood to keep fabrics fresh. Los Angeles’ dry climate helps prevent mildew, but I’ll need to be more careful when I move to humid England.
- Q: If you’re downsizing before going to England, would you consider an online garage sale?
- A: That’s a nice idea, but I might forget. Just joking – I won’t forget my fabrics! I’ll consider it when I’m preparing for the move.
- Q: Can we see your laces?
- A: I’d love to show you, but they require careful handling. I might showcase them slowly as we approach our moving date when I’ll be unpacking and rewrapping them.
I’m excited to use these fabrics in future projects and demonstrations. Next week, we’ll continue with draping the back of the bodice and skirt for our dress project, and turn them into a pattern. I’m also working on a fun skirt workshop that I think you’ll really enjoy.
