In this week’s session, I began demonstrating how to drape a dress inspired by a Roxanda design shared by Sana. Unfortunately, I had to cut the session short due to a family matter, but I covered the initial steps of draping the bodice and setting up the dress fabric. I also discussed various types of bra cups used in corsetry and addressed students’ questions about pattern adjustments.

Demonstration Steps (Partial):

  1. Cut two rectangular pieces for the dress front and back
  2. Attached the pieces at the shoulder seams, leaving openings at the sides
  3. Pinned the fabric to the dress form, aligning with the bodice underneath
  4. Marked and cut the neckline shape
  5. Began explaining how to shape the dress silhouette

Questions & Answers:

  • Q: How do I adjust my dress form for my broader shoulders and flatter chest?
  • A: Pad out the back slightly, especially around the shoulder blades. For the chest, add thin layers of padding to match your measurements while keeping a flatter shape.

  • Q: What types of bra cups do you recommend for corsets?
  • A: I prefer firmer cups for smaller busts to provide structure. Softer foam cups work well for larger busts. Hard shell cups can be difficult to find, but molded foam cups are a good alternative.

  • Q: Can you recommend where to buy bra cups online?
  • A: Wawak is a good site to check. I’ll look into more options and share them in the group later.

I’ll continue the Roxanda dress draping demonstration next week and will post a recorded video on lining the Burberry dress we worked on previously.
