In this week’s session, I walked through the process of drafting a basic trouser block from scratch. This was quite an intensive session, lasting over two hours, where we went through all the steps to create a master pattern for semi-fitted trousers. The block we created will serve as a foundation for developing various trouser styles in future sessions.

Demonstration Steps:

  1. Explained the required body measurements and how to take them
  2. Drew the initial framework lines on pattern paper
  3. Marked key points like waist, hip, knee, and ankle
  4. Drafted the front trouser piece, including crotch curve
  5. Created the back trouser piece, adjusting for seat curve
  6. Added darts to the back piece for shaping
  7. Finalized both front and back pattern pieces
  8. Labeled the master block with necessary information

Questions & Answers:

  • Q: When will we turn this into a working pattern?
  • A: Next week we’ll trace this off onto new paper and turn it into a working block. We’ll also discuss crotch ease, waistbands, shaping the waist, and changing leg shapes.

This session laid the groundwork for our trouser block. Next week, we’ll refine it into a working pattern that you can use to create your own custom-fitted trousers.
