In this week’s session, I continued working on our trouser project, focusing on attaching the waist facing and troubleshooting some issues that came up. We encountered challenges with aligning the waist facing properly, which led to a valuable lesson on the importance of careful preparation and problem-solving during garment construction. I also shared updates on my upcoming holiday plans and personal life.
Demonstration Steps:
- Attached the back darts of the trousers
- Sewed the side seams and inner leg seams
- Closed the crotch seam
- Prepared and attached the waist facing
- Encountered and analyzed issues with the waist facing alignment
- Discussed solutions for fixing the waist facing alignment problem
Questions & Answers:
- Q: What’s the best way to press trouser seams?
- A: I like to press the seams open first, then press them flat against the leg. For the bottom of the leg, I press it flat to ensure a crisp finish.
- Q: How do you handle fraying fabric when constructing trousers?
- A: With fraying fabric, it’s important to be extra careful and potentially use a larger seam allowance. You may also want to finish the edges before construction to prevent excessive fraying.
- Q: What’s your approach to fixing waistband issues?
- A: When encountering waistband problems, I recommend carefully analyzing the issue, then deciding whether to adjust by taking in or letting out at the side seams, or by re-leveling the entire waistband. Sometimes it’s necessary to partially deconstruct to fix alignment problems.
