In this session, I demonstrated how to create a more fitted classic shirt silhouette without gathers at the back. I showed the steps to adjust the draped pattern pieces to achieve a closer fit around the body while maintaining the classic shirt style.

I explained the differences between the gathered and non-gathered versions of the classic shirt. I transferred the draped fitted pattern onto paper, making adjustments like extending the shoulders slightly, dropping the armholes, and repositioning the bust darts for a smoother fit.

Lesson Steps:

  • Transfer the draped fitted shirt pattern onto paper
  • Extend the shoulders out slightly
  • Drop the armholes down about 1-1.25 inches
  • Close and reposition the bust darts if needed
  • Add slight curve at the hem for a more fitted silhouette
  • Blend the side seams and match to the back piece
  • Decide on button placket style (real or fake buttons)
  • Maintain the same yoke piece for both gathered and fitted versions
  • Create sample garments to test fit before finalizing the pattern
