In this lesson, I taught how to drape the yoke for the classic shirt. We started with the back yoke, pinning and smoothing the muslin around the neckline and shoulders.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin the center back at the neckline, slightly above the line
  • Smooth and pin around the neckline area, slashing as needed
  • Smooth along the shoulder line and pin at the shoulder tip
  • Slash and smooth around the front area
  • Mark the yoke line, shoulder line, and center back
  • Measure 1 inch from yoke ends and mark for gathering notches
  • Mark 1/4-1/2 inch outside armhole for a relaxed shoulder

I demonstrated the process step-by-step, explaining the importance of the markings for shaping the yoke and allowing for gathers in the front piece. With the back yoke draped, we’ll move on to draping the front piece next.
