In this session, I taught how to measure the armhole and neckline accurately for drafting the sleeves and collar of the classic shirt. We trued the lines, connected the yoke to the shoulders, and took key measurements from the shoulder line reference points.

Lesson Steps:

  • Corrected and trued the lines of the draped shirt pieces
  • Connected the yoke to the shoulder at the front and back
  • Measured the front armhole from shoulder line reference point (25 cm or 9.75 inches)
  • Measured the back armhole from shoulder line reference point (26 cm or 10.25 inches)
  • Measured from shoulder line reference to the front yoke end (3 cm or 1.18 inches)
  • Corrected the neckline curve for a smoother line
  • Measured the center back to shoulder line on neckline (8.5 cm)
  • Measured center back to front yoke end on neckline (12.5 cm)
  • Noted the front extension length (2 cm) for the collar stand
