In this lesson, I explained how she would be cutting the lining fabric using the same pattern pieces as the outer fabric, without making a separate lining pattern. I chose to use the same mid-weight satin fabric for both the outer shell and lining for simplicity.

I demonstrated how to prepare the lining fabric by pressing out any creases. I then placed the pattern pieces on the fabric, transferring notches and markings, and cut out the lining pieces for the bodice front, back, and skirt.

Lesson Steps:

  • Press the lining fabric to remove creases and make it smooth
  • Place the bodice front pattern piece on the fabric, transfer notches and markings
  • Cut out the bodice front lining piece
  • Place the bodice back pattern piece on the fabric, matching notches and markings
  • Cut out the bodice back lining piece
  • Place the skirt pattern pieces on the fabric, aligning the grainline
  • Cut out the skirt lining pieces
  • Transfer any necessary markings like dart endings onto the lining pieces
