In this lesson, I taught how to drape the front bodice on the dress form. We pinned the fabric along the bust line, apex, neckline, and shoulder points. Then smoothed out excess fabric and created darts at the waist and armhole areas to achieve the proper fit.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin fabric along bust line, apex, center front
  • Smooth fabric around neckline and shoulders, make release cuts as needed
  • Pin at shoulder point
  • Smooth fabric from armhole to side seam and pin
  • Locate waist dart by pinching out from apex, make release cuts
  • Fold and pin waist dart (towards center front)
  • Create armhole or bust dart by pinning excess fabric
  • Trim excess fabric from armhole and side seam areas
  • Mark all seamlines, darts, and reference points with pencil
