In this session, I demonstrated how to drape the back piece of a basic skirt. I aligned the muslin fabric on the dress form, pinning at the waistline, hip line, and center back to ensure proper vertical and horizontal alignment.

I showed the process of draping the back skirt piece, locating and pinning the darts, closing the darts, marking the side seams, and adjusting the fit around the hip area. The goal was to achieve a clean silhouette while allowing room for movement.

Lesson Steps:

  • Align muslin fabric on dress form, pinning at waistline, hip line, and center back
  • Locate and pin darts on the back (wider dart first, then smaller one)
  • Close and pin the darts
  • Cut excess fabric at waistline and release tensions
  • Mark side seams from waistline to hem
  • Add 1/2 inch extension at side seam and hip line on front and back skirts
  • Adjust side seams, allowing room around hips
  • Pin side seams together, marking new lines with a different colored pencil
  • Unpin and try to match skirt darts with bodice darts
  • Pin bodice and skirt together at waistline to check the continuous side seam

I hope this video helps with your draping process. Let me know if you have any other questions!
