In this lesson, I teach how to drape the front portion of a basic skirt pattern. I demonstrate the steps on a dress form, starting with marking the hip line and preparing the muslin fabric.

The key points were aligning the fabric along the center front and side seams, creating darts for shaping, and ensuring enough ease around the hip area for movement and comfort.

Lesson Steps:

  • Mark the hip line on the dress form and muslin fabric
  • Align the muslin along the center front, pinning at hip and waist
  • Pin along the side seam, maintaining straight grain
  • Create two darts – a longer one at the princess line, a shorter one
  • Close and pin the darts, marking their lengths
  • Slash around the waistline to check and adjust the fit
  • Mark the side seam, hip line, and dart placements
  • Ensure enough ease around the hip area for movement
