In this lesson, I taught how to line a dress after draping and constructing the bodice and skirt pieces. I summarized the steps taken so far – draping, transferring patterns, cutting fabric and lining, assembling bodice and skirt pieces.

Lesson Steps:

  • Attach bodice front to skirt front, matching darts and waistline
  • Attach bodice back to skirt back, matching darts and lines
  • Join shoulders of front and back bodice pieces
  • Lay lining pieces face-to-face with fashion fabric pieces
  • Pin around armholes and neckline, leaving side seam allowances open
  • Sew armholes and neckline, clipping curves for turning
  • Pull lining through shoulder seams to right side
  • Press seams lightly, catching lining to fashion fabric with understitching
  • Sew side seams of lining, then fashion fabric
  • Prepare back opening for zipper insertion
  • Insert zipper and finish back seam
