In this session, I taught how to sew the darts and outline for the skirt portion of the dress project. We worked on closing the darts neatly and marking the outlines to prepare for sewing the skirt pieces together.

I demonstrated sewing the darts on the front and back skirt pieces, ensuring they were properly pinned and stitched. I also discussed strategies for dealing with fabrics that fray easily, like using a narrow stitching line around the edges.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin the darts at the top and bottom, following the markings
  • Stitch the darts closed, locking the stitches at the end
  • Sew the dart stitching down to the marked endpoint gradually tapering off
  • Identify and mark any remaining darts that are less visible
  • For fabrics that fray, stitch a narrow line around the edges to minimize fraying
  • Adjust tension for a neater stitch if needed
