In this session, I taught how to transfer the draped basic bodice muslin to dotted paper to create a pattern. I started by pinning the muslin front piece to the paper, aligning the center front and smoothing out the bust line, shoulders, and side seams. Then I traced over the muslin lines using a tracing wheel to transfer the shape onto the paper.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin the muslin front piece to dotted paper, aligning center front
  • Smooth out bust line, shoulders, side seams on muslin
  • Trace over muslin lines with tracing wheel to transfer shape
  • Draw in darts, marking dart points and legs
  • Trim pattern piece about 1 inch away from drawn lines
  • Close darts by folding paper towards apex
  • Use curve rulers to smooth neckline, armholes
  • Redraw lines to perfect the pattern shape
  • Erase any unnecessary or uneven lines
