In this session, I taught how to draft the skirt pattern for the Charlie dress.

I demonstrated taking body measurements and using them to create the basic skirt shape with darts/draping at the hips and hemline.

Lesson Steps:

  • Measured half of underbust, waist, and hip circumferences and drew these horizontal lines
  • Drew diagonal lines connecting underbust to hip measurements
  • Adjusted curves at waist and hip for desired amount of ease/fitting
  • Marked points along diagonal lines where I wanted draping/folds to occur
  • Cut pattern pieces and inserted paper to create folds at marked points
  • Trued the skirt pattern by laying it over the bodice pattern and adjusting as needed
  • Added seam allowances before cutting final pattern
