In this session, I taught how to draft and cut a draped sleeve for the Charlie dress project, which is made with jersey fabric.

The draped sleeve creates a beautiful draping effect in the middle of the sleeve without any gathers at the armhole.

I demonstrated the process of drafting a draped sleeve pattern by folding the sleeve block in half, marking the desired drape points, and cutting and spreading the pattern pieces to create the draping effect.

Lesson Steps:

  • Fold the sleeve block pattern in half lengthwise
  • Mark the points where you want the draping to start and end on the sleeve
  • Cut the folded sleeve pattern at the marked points, leaving the armhole and side seam edges intact
  • Spread the cut pieces apart to create the desired draping effect, taping them in place
  • Blend the spread pieces smoothly into the original sleeve pattern
  • Add seam allowances and cut the final draped sleeve pattern
  • Cut the sleeve pieces from fabric and sew them together at the center seam
  • Attach the draped sleeve to the armhole of the garment
