In this session, I taught how to drape the top portion of the dress on a dress form.

I demonstrated the steps for draping the front and back pieces, marking the style lines, and preparing the muslin for transferring to a paper pattern.

I guided through draping the front and back bodice pieces on the dress form, stretching and pinning the fabric to achieve the desired fit. I showed how to mark the style lines, reference points like bust level and center front, and prepare the muslin for transferring to a paper pattern.

Lesson Steps:

  • Drape the front bodice piece by folding fabric at style line, stretching slightly to the back neck and pinning
  • Stretch fabric at side seams to cover bust, keeping grain line straight, and pin
  • Open up excess fabric at neckline and gather around neck, pinning temporarily
  • Draw style lines, apex, bust level, center front on the draped front piece
  • Lay back piece, pinning at grain line and stretching slightly for a relaxed fit
  • Draw style lines on the back piece
  • Cut muslin pieces leaving 1 inch seam allowance to prepare for pattern transfer
