In this session, I taught how to take necessary measurements for draping a skirt using a creative geometric technique. This method allows more control over where the drapes will fall on the form.

I demonstrated the key measurements needed for drafting the skirt pattern, including waist, hip, and desired length. I also explained how to measure the circumference at the desired hemline.

Lesson Steps:

  • Measure from side seam to waist and note it down
  • Measure front waist circumference and note it
  • Measure from waist to hip and note it
  • Measure front hip circumference and note it
  • Decide desired skirt length and measure from side seam to that point
  • If using a dress form, measure circumference around desired hem level
  • If not using a form, measure circumference around your body at desired hem level
  • Note back waist and back hip measurements as well
  • Have all measurements ready for drafting the skirt pattern
