In this session, I taught how to transfer the draped top pieces onto paper patterns.

I laid the draped pieces flat, pinned them without stretching, and traced around them with a tracing wheel to capture all the seamlines and reference points.

I demonstrated transferring the draped top to paper patterns, carefully pinning and tracing the front and back pieces. I ensured the grain lines were straight, made adjustments based on measurements, and added necessary information like seam allowances and notches.

Lesson Steps:

  • Laid the draped front and back pieces flat on the table
  • Pinned the pieces without stretching to keep the shape
  • Used a tracing wheel to trace around the pinned pieces onto paper
  • Drew in reference lines like grainline, center front/back, side seams, etc.
  • Measured the pieces against the original garment to check accuracy
  • Made adjustments to the paper patterns based on measurements
  • Added seam allowances, notches for bust, pleats/gathers
  • Wrote pattern information like fabric, design name, cut layout

I provided all the details needed to cut and sew the top from these new paper patterns in the next steps. With the patterns ready, we’ll move on to draping the skirt portion next.
