In this session, I showed the fit of the top portion of the Charlie dress and explained how the front pieces overlap at the center.

I then sewed the side seams of the skirt pieces and lining, trying it on to check the drape. The skirt had a beautiful flow without needing gathers.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pinned and fitted the overlapping front bodice pieces
  • Sewed the side seams of the skirt and lining pieces
  • Tried on the skirt to check the draping effect
  • Attached the skirt to the bodice at side seams and center fronts
  • Finished by hemming the skirt and lining with a narrow/pearl stitch

Overall, I was able to construct a flowy summer dress with a simple bodice and beautifully draped skirt.

The lack of gathers gave it a sleek, high-end look while still allowing for movement. I love how it turned out using nice jersey fabric.
