In this session, I taught how to create a draped knit top pattern called the Charlie Top.

I demonstrated the process of drafting the pattern pieces and adding drape lines to create a stylish, draped silhouette.

I showed how to draft the front bodice pattern piece from a knit top block, add drape lines, and adjust the neckline and sleeve cap for the desired design. I also explained how to cut the pattern pieces from fabric and prepare for a fitting.

Lesson Steps:

  • Draft the front bodice pattern piece from a knit top block
  • Add drape lines by cutting the pattern piece and spreading the sections
  • Adjust the neckline depth and shape (boat neck or higher back neck)
  • Modify the sleeve cap for a dropped sleeve look
  • Cut the pattern pieces from fabric, adding seam allowances
  • Transfer notches for construction
  • Lay out and cut the fabric pieces, following grainline
