In this session, I provide an overview of the Debbie dress design, which is inspired by the kimono sleeve look and features a relaxed, airy silhouette with a westernized, modernized kimono-style top and a full or half-circle skirt.

I explain the key features, including a westernized kimono-style top with wide sleeves, a V-neckline, and an attached full or half-circle skirt with an optional belt or elastic waistband.

Lesson Steps:

  • Understand the differences between kimono, dolman, and batwing sleeves
  • Learn how to draft a kimono sleeve torso foundation pattern
  • Cut and sew a muslin sample from the drafted pattern
  • Try on the muslin sample and make necessary adjustments
  • Prepare for drafting the kimono sleeve torso foundation using front and back bodice block patterns
