In this lesson, I taught two different methods to calculate the waist measurement for drafting a full or half circle skirt. The first method follows standard pattern making calculations, while the second is my own simplified technique using just the waist circumference and skirt length.

Lesson Steps:

  • Gather needed measurements: waist circumference and desired skirt length
  • Method 1: Standard calculations
    • Determine number of seams (3 or 4)
    • Follow formula with waist circumference to find radius
    • Draw 1/4 or 1/2 circle using radius measurement
    • Add/subtract for seam allowances
  • Method 2: Neda’s technique
    • Divide waist circumference by 4 (for full circle) or 2 (for half circle)
    • Use angled ruler to draw 1/4 or 1/2 circle using that measurement
    • Add seam allowances as needed
