In this session, I taught how to elongate the kimono bodice pattern to create a torso foundation and draft a dolman sleeve. I demonstrated extending the length, blending the side seams, and modifying the shoulder area to achieve the desired dolman sleeve silhouette.
Lesson Steps:
- Copy the front and back pieces of the kimono bodice pattern, extending the length by 9-10 inches below the waistline.
- Blend the side seams from the waistline down, creating a slight flare towards the hip area.
- Mark the shoulder point and draw a straight line from there to the middle of the armhole curve.
- Drop the shoulder area by 2-3 inches and soften the curve at the top of the shoulder and sleeve opening.
- Blend the underarm area, creating a smooth transition from the sleeve to the torso.
- Add notches at the underarm area and shoulder points for easy alignment during sewing.
- Cut out the pattern pieces, including seam allowances, except for the neckline, hem, and sleeve openings.
- Assemble the front and back pieces, leaving the darts open at the top and bottom for a soft, cinched waistline.
