In this session, I demonstrated fitting the basic kimono bodice sample on a dress form. I showed how the bodice looks without darts closed, then closed the darts for a more fitted look. I also experimented with gathering the waist using an elastic.

I fitted the basic kimono bodice sample, showing how it looks with open and closed darts. I tried gathering the waist with an elastic to see the effect. I decided on the sleeve length and neckline style for the final Debbie dress design.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pinned the bodice on the dress form, aligning the center front
  • Observed the fit without closed darts, then closed the darts
  • Tried gathering the waist using an elastic band
  • Decided on the sleeve length, marking where to split the sleeve
  • Determined the neckline style – V-neck for front, higher neck for back
  • Marked the side seam and waist positions on the dress form
  • Next steps are editing the kimono pattern based on the fitting
