In this session, I taught how to sew the hem of the silk dress skirt and attach the pockets. I demonstrated folding and stitching the hem with a tiny fold, then attaching the pockets to the side seams of the skirt in a way that minimizes bulk and pulling on the delicate silk fabric.

Lesson Steps:

  • Folding and stitching the skirt hem with a tiny fold
  • Closing the pocket sides and covering raw edges with bias binding
  • Pinning the pocket opening to the skirt side seam, matching notches
  • Stitching the pocket opening to skirt seam from notch to notch on each side
  • Leaving the bottom of pocket unstitched to avoid bulk
  • Pressing the attached pocket for a clean finish
