Dress Project: Debbie Part 5: Attaching Skirt & Top, Sewing Invisible Zipper

In this session, I taught how to attach the skirt to the bodice of the Debbie dress. I demonstrated easing in the excess fabric from the skirt waistline to match the bodice waistline and attaching an invisible zipper to the skirt.

Lesson Steps:

  • Measure the skirt waistline and bodice waistline to check if they match
  • If the skirt waistline is larger, ease in the excess fabric into the side seams and center back
  • Alternatively, gather the excess fabric slightly at the front and back for a gathered waist look
  • Match the side seams of the skirt and bodice, pin in place
  • Sew the skirt to the bodice at the waistline, easing in any excess fabric
  • Attach an invisible zipper to the center back of the skirt
  • Ease in any remaining excess fabric from the skirt waistline into the bodice
  • Hand-baste or finish the zipper area as desired
