In this session, I realized I had mistakenly attached the back bodice pieces as the front, but was able to make adjustments since the front and back patterns were the same. I added an elastic waistband to bring the bodice and skirt together cohesively.

I covered the raw edges with bias binding for a clean finish.

Lesson Steps:

  • Assess the mistake and determine a solution (adding straps and waistband)
  • Clean up frayed edges and cover with bias binding
  • Create an elastic waistband tunnel and insert elastic
  • Attach waistband to dress, pinning at key points (center front, side seams, center back)
  • Tack or hand-stitch waistband to dress at pinned areas
  • Finish by attaching hook-and-eye closure and straps
  • Press the completed dress and check the fit on the dress form
