Dress Project: Emily

3-month Access

In this session, I demonstrated how to drape the front bodice of the cowl neck bias draped dress on the dress form. I started by aligning the bias line along the center front, deciding the width and depth of the cowl neckline, and pinning the shoulder points.

I showed the steps to drape the front bodice, including aligning the bias, shaping the cowl neckline, smoothing the fabric around the body, releasing tension at the waistline, and marking important lines like shoulders, bust, waist, and armholes.

Lesson Steps:

  • Align the bias muslin along the center front of the dress form
  • Decide the desired width and depth of the cowl neckline
  • Pin the shoulder points in place
  • Smooth the fabric around the body without pulling
  • Release tension at the waistline by making small cuts
  • Mark important lines (shoulders, bust, waist, armholes)
  • Identify and mark the breaking point for the cowl drape
